Filipe Zau: “There were few men of Agostinho Neto’s temperament”

“Men of Agostinho Neto's character, whether at African or even global level, there were few”, considered the Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, when he spoke, this Tuesday, in the central event of National Hero's Day, hosted by Dundo (Lunda Norte province).

On the occasion, the Minister of Culture, quoted by Angop, stressed that the political, cultural and patriotic path of the country's first President must be remembered in a dignified manner so that his memory remains alive in the hearts of the country's citizens.

According to the minister, Neto's well-known phrases – such as 'The most important thing is to solve the people's problems'; 'Angola is and will always be, by its own will, a firm trench of the revolution in Africa', among others – should serve as inspiration to the Angolan people to get involved in Angola's socio-economic progress.

Zau also considered that Neto expressed his love for his country by having commanded the 'Popular Resistance' procedure, as well as the movement of citizens in general, after the conflicts in Luanda and the invasion of Angola by foreign troops from the Republic of Zaire and the apartheid Republic of South Africa supported by mercenaries, writes Angop.

"Despite the beginning of the civil war with the evident internationalization of armed conflicts, António Agostinho Neto, on behalf of the Central Committee of the MPLA and the Angolan People, proclaims, on November 11, 1975, the independence of Angola, a demonstration of courage, bravery and selfless love for the country", he said, adding that the country's first President was a leader of a country that fought persistently for the political freedom of the Angolan people.

The governor of Namibe, Archer Mangueira, also did not let the date go by unnoticed and, after paying tribute to the founder of the Nation by laying a wreath, said that "the legacy is that we do everything we can to make a developed country, that is why he fought".

Quoted in a statement from the provincial government of Namibe, to which VerAngola had access, Archer Mangueira "assured that the implementation of the great slogan that Doctor Agostinho Neto left us, consists of the fact that the Provincial Government of Namibe is working in the social, political, economic and cultural sectors, so that people have a better life".
