According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, the special envoy of Emmanuel Macron (French President) arrived in the country on Sunday evening, accompanied by Marcel Ferrand, his political advisor and director of Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the French Republic.
During the meeting with Téte António, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "the special envoy of Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic for the Great Lakes Region, took the opportunity to address issues of a multilateral nature, focusing on the ongoing conflict between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo", the statement reads.
On the occasion, Téte António's interlocutor reported that France is following "with special attention" the peace and security situation in the east of the DRC, and "praises the dynamic undertaken" by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in his capacity as mediator appointed by the African Union.
The dialogue, attended by Sophie Aubert, French Ambassador to Angola, and Ambassador Jorge Cardoso, Director of Africa, Middle East and Regional Organisations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also addressed the meetings that the President of the Republic held in August, "as part of the mediation of peace and security in the DRC, with Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, and Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo".
During the meeting, Emmanuel Cohet heard from Téte António, "a summary of all the tripartite ministerial meetings for peace and security in the DRC, under Angolan mediation".
Visiting Angola for the first time, the special envoy of the French President took the opportunity to reiterate France's invitation for Angola to participate in the XIX Francophonie Summit, which is scheduled for October at the Cité Internationale de la Langue Française in Villers-Cotterêts, "a space entirely dedicated to the French language and Francophone cultures".
According to Emmanuel Cohet, the summit will be "a major event, in diplomatic, political, economic and cultural terms, with the French language as a link".
