Speaking to Lusa, the member of the installation committee, Xavier Jaime, expressed his conviction that this time, Abel Chivukuvuku's political project, which was rejected by the Constitutional Court in 2020, would be legalised.
According to Xavier Jaime, the main constraint presented in the previous attempt at legalisation was linked to the certificates of residence, a document required by law, now replaced by citizen cards.
"This time, when we brought here 8000 declarations of acceptance, we decided to attach photocopies of the citizen cards, which replaced the certificate of residence, and this constraint that was presented previously cannot exist and based on this, the certainty is absolute", he stressed.
Xavier Jaime stressed that the Angola Rebirth Party – Together for Angola – Serving Angola (PRA-JA Servir Angola) "is an organization in fact", with representation throughout the country, and that, once legalized, it will comply with the provisions of the statutes, that is, the preparation of the congress, preceded by the holding of conferences.
According to Xavier Jaime, the law establishes a 60-day deadline for the court to rule.
"Hope is the last to die, we have been very mistreated, because of the reputation of our own political organisation, but we are resilient and resistant too, so we are tempered, we will see what will happen", he stressed.
This project was presented to Angolan society in 2019 by Abel Chivukuvuku, a member of UNITA between 1974 and 2012, when he assumed the leadership of CASA-CE, a coalition of political parties that ran in the elections of that same year, until 2019.
The political project is part of the United Patriotic Front (FPU), a platform created in the 2022 general elections, led by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), coordinated by the leader of this largest opposition party, Adalberto Costa Júnior, assisted by Abel Chivukuvuku and the president of the Democratic Bloc, Filomeno Vieira Lopes.
On Friday, Abel Chivukuvuku said at the opening of the meeting to approve the documents submitted this Tuesday to the Constitutional Court that, in the medium term, one of the objectives is to become active participants in the FPU.
"Maintain the United Patriotic Front, strengthen the United Patriotic Front, if necessary we will think in terms of expansion (...) so that we are truly the hope in 2027 [year of the next general elections in the country]", declared the politician.
