Abel Chivukuvuku begins new attempt to legalize PRA-JA Servir Angola

The coordinator of the political project PRA-JA Servir Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku, began, this Friday, a new attempt to legalize this party, at the end of the four-year suspension imposed by the Constitutional Court.

The Constitutional Court (TC) definitively rejected the legalization of PRA-JA Servir Angola in 2020, after several appeals filed by the political party's installation committee were answered negatively.

The issue was allegedly due to doubts regarding the more than 30,000 signatures that the party collected with a view to its legalization, given that, according to the law, it is necessary to collect the signatures of at least 7500 citizens duly recognized by the administration.

In a statement sent to Lusa, PRA-JA Servir Angola reported that Abel Chivukuvuku and his companions submitted a request to the Constitutional Court this Friday requesting the legalization of the Installation Committee, with a view to registering the political party.

On July 27, 2024, PRA-JA completed four years since it was notified by the Constitutional Court about Ruling 632 that definitively rendered its legalization unfeasible.

After this period, citizens who have had their accreditation process cancelled due to non-compliance with legal requirements will be given the opportunity to register a new political party.

Chivukuvuku, who left the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) in 2012, of which he had been a member since 1974 and a former leader, founded the coalition Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition (CASA-CE) that same year.

In 2019, he was removed from the presidency by the coalition's constituent parties for alleged "breach of trust" and has since begun the process of legalising his new political party, PRA-JA Servir Angola.

The legalization process has dragged on with successive "rejections" from the Constitutional Court, alleging irregularities in the documentation submitted for the purpose.
