The Secretary of State, quoted in a government statement to which VerAngola had access, clarified that "the need for local production arose during the covid-19 pandemic with the challenge of access to vaccines and medicines".
According to Leonardo Inocêncio Europeu - who at the event under the theme 'Investment in Research and Innovation for Health: Africa and Indonesia's Priority' spoke about the importance of global cooperation in order to face health challenges -, this challenge led the country "to reflect on the importance of intensifying international cooperation, working continuously with the World Health Organization (WHO) and African regulatory bodies".
The Secretary of State explained that the objective is to cooperate with African countries and Indonesia to promote "technology transfer and local production of medicines".

On the occasion, he also highlighted the creation of the Medicines and Medical Devices Regulatory Agency in the country, which aims to achieve "maturity in the regulation of the internal market and guarantee the quality of products".
Thus, he added: "Angola's appeal includes the transfer of know-how, the sharing of knowledge and the training of human resources."
At the forum, Angola was represented by a delegation headed by the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida. The delegation, in addition to being composed of Adão de Almeida and Leonardo Inocêncio Europeu, was also made up of the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Angola to Indonesia, Florêncio de Almeida, representatives of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, as well as the ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Health.
