According to Angop, interventions by 40 heads of State and Government are planned this Wednesday.
The assembly, which runs until next Tuesday (26 September), begins with the intervention of Wavel Ramkalawa, president of Seychelles. This is followed by Paul Kagame (president of Rwanda) and the president of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
According to Angop, names such as Hage Geingob (president of Namibia), Klaus Werner Iohannis (president of Romania), Chandrikapersad Santokhi (president of Suriname), Zeljko Komšić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (Ghana), Gitanas Nausėda (Lithuania), Guillermo Lasso Mendoza (Ecuador), among many others, make up the list of speakers.
In New York, João Lourenço has held several meetings on the sidelines of the event. On Tuesday, the highlight was the meeting held at UN headquarters with the president of Kenya, William Ruto, whose "strengthening of relations between the two countries was the theme of the meeting", says the Presidency of the Republic.
The President of the Republic also held a meeting with his Nigerian counterpart, Bola Tinubu, "with a view to expanding relations linking Angola and Nigeria".
The list of meetings for Tuesday also includes one with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the Prime Minister of São Tomé and Príncipe, Patrice Trovoada.
The diplomatic contacts, according to the Presidency of the Republic, "also included the meeting of the President of the Republic with Samantha Power, Administrator of the American Agency for International Development (USAID)", where they "followed up on the discussions held during the Summit of US- Africa (held in Washington last December) and the increase in trade and investment through the Lobito Corridor".
João Lourenço also met with the President of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēviĉs, as well as with Amos Hochstein, "who holds the position of Global Coordinator for Infrastructure and Energy Security in the Biden Administration".
