Longest road route in the country returns after the end of the sanitary fence in Luanda

A year and five months later, the sanitary fence in Luanda province, imposed by restrictions to fight the covid-19 pandemic, ended. Thus, the return of one of the longest road routes in Angola, which links the capital to Ondjiva, was allowed. More than 1600 kilometers are covered in 24 hours.

The company responsible for the operation is the Macon company, which had suspended this service due to the sanitary fence.

The importance of this route intensifies in the Luanda-Ondjiva link, as several traders – attracted by trade from Namibia – head to the border in this way. Despite the territorial barriers remain closed, the measure translates into a relief to the family economy, as it is possible for merchants to move to clear customs for their goods arriving in national territory.

Despite having praised the reopening of this connection, which took place on Monday, passengers saw the fare for the trip increase, from 29,000 to 33,000 kwanzas.

Barnabé Francisco, a trader, told Angop that the reopening of the route will ease the constraints suffered by those looking to travel between these two destinations. "With the lifting of the fence, we have a faster and safer trip, since, previously, we were forced to use light vehicles, which charged high prices", he explained.

Remember that, in order to travel, passengers will have to comply with various requirements ranging from the submission of negative tests to covid-19 to a declaration of service, which may be requested.

A source linked to Macon said to Angop that the operator will make the route with the frequency of four transport services per week.
