According to the spokesman for the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Cuanza Norte, Hélder Milagre, on Thursday, at around 22:00, a vehicle from the province of Uíge was lost to Malanje.

"Yesterday, at around 10 pm, we registered another road accident caused by a collision, on the bridge over the Quibuca River, in the municipality of Ambaca, causing four incarcerated deaths and five injuries," said Hélder Milagre, speaking to public radio.

The official stressed that this is the second accident in the last 72 hours, which makes a total of nine dead and eight injured, in the same province.

Hélder Milagre drew the attention of motorists to the need to respect the Highway Code.

"The Highway Code is something that has to be well interpreted by motorists and it is also necessary to have sympathy on the roads, so that situations of this kind do not happen again", he stressed.

The high number of road accidents is a concern for the authorities, which are the second leading cause of death in Angola, after malaria.
