Téte António: meeting in November defines “more concrete way” for CPLP to achieve economic objective

The Foreign Minister said this Thursday that, at a meeting scheduled for November, in Luanda, it should be defined "in a more concrete way" how the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) will achieve "the economic objective".

The head of Angola's diplomacy, who visited the headquarters of the Portuguese-speaking community in Lisbon, where he had a meeting with the executive secretary, Zacarias da Costa, and with the permanent representatives of the member states to the CPLP, reaffirmed the "particular importance" who will assume the economic pillar in the organization during the angolan presidency.

"In Luanda, we decided to give particular importance to the economic aspect. Therefore, the economic pillar, during the presidency of Angola will, of course, be the object of a meeting, in Luanda, in November, in which the sectors linked to this pillar will participate, which is to define in a more concrete way how we intend to achieve this goal", stated Téte António.

The minister also referred that the angolan presidency defends that there should be informal meetings of heads of diplomacy from the CPLP countries in all major international forums, as is usually the case on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations, in New York.

"We had a meeting of ministers in New York. This is to say that at CPLP this is also to continue. Wherever we are, every time we meet in international forums. Not only to coordinate our positions, but also to ensure that the cohesion of this very particular family, which is the CPLP, continues to speak loudly in the international arena, in order to defend, above all, the interests of our populations", he stressed.

The official, who took the opportunity to also announce that São Tomé and Príncipe will be the country that will assume the organization's next presidency, stressed that the visit to the community's headquarters "was not only a way of signaling Angola's commitment to the organization's presidency, as well as the opportunity to reiterate what was decided at the Luanda summit in July".

"It is an honor to be here today as our first public act as acting president of the CPLP", stressed Téte António.

"After the Luanda summit, our visit here to the CPLP headquarters is to reaffirm the commitment of the Republic of Angola and also to be here on a symbolic day, because this was the day of the first meeting of the committee of ambassadors [permanent consultation committee of the CPLP]", under the angolan presidency, he added.

The head of the Angolan diplomacy added that the ambassadors "are the main instrument to help the heads of state as they follow the day-to-day issues".

In addition, Téte António also highlighted the fact that the Republic of Angola has just appointed a permanent representative to the CPLP, ambassador Francisco Oliveira Encoge, which reinforces the commitment of the Angolan presidency.

Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor are the nine member states of CPLP, an organization that celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.
