The parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), the largest opposition party, stresses in a statement its concern about the epidemiological state of covid-19, but is not in favor of more restrictive measures.
"Despite this increase in the incidence of covid-19, the UNITA parliamentary group considers that any restrictive measures capable of compromising the economy on a large scale must be properly considered, as they end up contributing to accentuate unemployment, hunger and poverty rates. and misery, thus increasing the suffering of the populations", states the press release.
In early September, the executive adopted new rules to gradually return to normality, including the end of quarantine for those who have completed vaccination, lifting of the sanitary fence in Luanda and the opening of bathing areas from 15 September.
However, for UNITA, the registration of more than 100 deaths in the last eight days per covid-19 calls attention to the need to redouble efforts to prevent and fight the disease, with emphasis on strict compliance with biosafety measures , such as the correct use of a face mask, physical distance and frequent hand hygiene.
UNITA therefore calls for the intensification of the information, education and institutional communication campaign on covid-19, identifying preferential targets such as schools, markets, factories, military units, bus stops and public transport, as well as strengthening the campaign of vaccination to "dispel unfounded fears".
UNITA's parliamentary group considers it essential to precisely define the targets and goals of each stage to avoid waste and urges the executive to increase funds for the health and education sectors in the next State Budget.
Angola registered on Tuesday 457 new cases, 13 deaths and 93 recovered, totaling 56,040 confirmed cases, 1526 deaths and 47,421 recovered patients.
