In a statement sent to VerAngola, WHO explains that the Cooperation Strategy represents the organization's strategic vision in the medium term and should incorporate old and new challenges, and be aligned with the country's priorities defined in the National Health Development Plan, in the Objectives Sustainable Development and other strategic documents, as well as national, regional and international commitments.

According to the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Angola, Zahira Virani, it is important to respond to health challenges in a planned, inclusive and lasting way.

Increasing that, "the partnership is here, the key word". "It has to be a collective effort from the Government, WHO, organizations, the private sector, and all health partners so that together we can achieve the goals set for improving the health of Angolans," she said.

Preliminary data from the independent evaluation of the activities carried out by WHO in Angola over the last five years show that, despite the challenges faced due to the global financial crisis and adverse emergency situations that affected the country, such as the marburg outbreak, hemorrhagic fever, among others, with negative consequences for planning and budgeting, WHO's intervention to improve health in Angola has been fundamentally satisfactory.

"WHO has played a leading role in supporting the Government in critical areas such as Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response, response to Public Health Emergencies, Strengthening the National Health System, and in the control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, including immunization and combating neglected tropical diseases," said the Minister of Health.

"I would like to congratulate WHO for having brought together all health stakeholders to define the cooperation strategy with Angola and I would like to take this opportunity to emphasize the crucial support it has provided to the country, in particular for the eradication of polio and the fight against the pandemic of covid-19," added Silvia Lutucuta.

The WHO Cooperation Strategy is a tool that promotes dialogue beyond the health sector, allows strategic partners to identify constraints within the health sector, place Angola at the center of WHO's work and develop a plan that prioritizes assistance technique for the most critical areas of the Health System, says the document.

The WHO Representative in Angola, Djamila Cabral, stated that the active participation of the different actors that intervene in the health sector during the ceremony to launch the process of elaboration of the Cooperation Strategy with Angola, is a manifestation of the unconditional support and commitment of all to improve the health of Angolans.

"We are very honored to be able to count on the support of society as a whole to define priorities and guidelines for the action of WHO in Angola. We are convinced that working together and united, we can build a better and healthier future for families Our commitment, from WHO and its staff in Angola, is to continue to contribute to achieving Universal Health Coverage in Angola, leaving no one behind."

In addition to the Ministry of Health, representatives of the Ministries of Transport, Agriculture, Energy and Water, Economy and Planning, Finance, United Nations Agencies, Diplomatic and Consular Missions, International Organizations, Civil Society and Sector participated in the launching ceremony.
