In an information note, in celebration of World Rabies Day, the Ministry of Health emphasizes that rabies is a zoonosis included in the list of neglected tropical diseases, transmitted to humans by inoculation of the rabies virus, contained in the saliva of the infected animal, mainly by biting , scratching or licking.

In 2009, the country registered an outbreak of rabies in the capital that killed more than a hundred children.

In the note, the Ministry of Health stresses that despite being known since antiquity, rabies remains a public health problem in developing countries.

"The celebration of World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness about the impact of the disease on the National Health Service on families, how to prevent it and eliminate the main sources of transmission", emphasizes the Ministry of Health in its information.
