Covid is already in business: young people wait in line and register population in the vaccine for 400 kwanzas

In Viana, the registration form for vaccination against covid-19 has become a business opportunity. Some young people, who are at the entrance to the Viana Youth House post, try to help people in the registration process in exchange for money: the young people are charging those interested between 300 and 400 kwanzas per person.

According to information provided by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), there are many people who do not know how to register. This is where the young people who meet at the post come into the picture.

"There are many people who do not know how to register and I call here to help," one of the young people told RNA.

Regarding the amounts that have been charged, the young man explained that they vary between 300 and 400 kwanzas, but that the amount changes from case to case.

"Our job here is to make it easier for people, people who cannot register at home, who do not have an accessible telephone. We are here, through this means, helping people," he said.

Odete da Silva, coordinator of the vaccination post at the Casa da Juventude de Viana, said she was aware of the situation and explained that the registration form is intended to speed up the vaccination process.

"The elderly enter without registration, now the young people do it and we here only receive and update (...). We ask to register because it makes the work easier. Here, if the user arrives with the registration already done, he only updates and the procedure is fast. When there is no registration, it takes time because sometimes the network is slow," he said, adding that it is not mandatory for people to register with the help of young people who are at the entrance to the post.

"They can even do it on their phones," she said, adding that whether people do it and pay is not the job's responsibility.
