"The US Embassy in Luanda, Angola, is pleased to announce the arrival of 464,090 doses of Pfizer vaccine against covid-19 that the US is sharing with Angola through Covax," a statement posted on embassy website.
In the note, the embassy said that the vaccines "do not come with restrictions" and that the donation has the "single purpose of saving lives".
This is the third batch of vaccines that the US has donated to Angola, bringing the total number of doses of Pfizer vaccine provided to Angola by that country to 1,646,960.
The most recent batch arrived at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by Covax, this Sunday, the 26th of September.
On the occasion of the occasion, Leonardo Inocêncio, Secretary of State for the Hospital Area, informed that these vaccines are going to be disseminated throughout the country and added that the Government also purchased another 280,000 doses of the Chinese vaccine, Sinopharm.
"In addition to this donation, the Government purchased 280 thousand doses of vaccines from Sinopharm, which guarantees that we have a batch of vaccines filled to meet the needs of the population," he said, quoted by Angop.
He indicated that the Executive's goal is to vaccinate around 70 percent of the population by the end of the year and appealed for citizens to adhere to the vaccination: "We know that there are many people who have not yet taken any dose of the vaccine. to appeal to the population to join the vaccination posts, so that we can stop this evil that affects everyone".
