Caminho-de-Ferro de Moçâmedes marks 115 years with memorial to accident victims

The Caminho-de-Ferro de Moçâmedes (CFM) will mark its 115th anniversary with a memorial to commemorate the 18 people who died as a result of an accident on that railroad.

According to the president of the board of CFM, Daniel Quipaxe, the names of the victims of the accident, which occurred in 2018, in the municipality of Bibala, Namibe province, will be nailed to a headstone.

The works, which have been underway for three months, are 97 percent of their completion and the monument should be inaugurated on the 26th of this month, two days before the date that marks the existence of CFM.

Daniel Quipaxe, quoted by Angop, mentioned that the memorial was built on the curve where the accident occurred, which involved a load composition of CFM and another of maintenance service under the responsibility of a Chinese company.

Besides the 18 dead, another ten people were injured.
