In the debut of the competition season, 1º de Agosto, four-time champion, and Interclube, trained by the Portuguese Ivo Campos, will face each other in the start of the first round of the national football championship 2020/21, drawn this Wednesday in Luanda.
The Girabola 2020/21 start-up, initially scheduled for 3 October, is conditioned to the evolution of the covid-19, and the official training of the federated events in Angola officially begins on Saturday, 19 September
According to the draw held this Wednesday, at the headquarters of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), in Luanda, the first round of the 43rd edition of the national football championship will also have the confrontation between Petro de Luanda and FC Bravos do Maquis.
The Baixa de Cassange de Malanje, which ascended this year to the first division, replacing the 1st of May, who was disqualified before the event was canceled, is playing for the first time with Recreativo da Caála, in Huambo province.
The clubs unanimously decided, on April 30, to cancel the competition, which was interrupted in March due to the pandemic, mainly to "safeguard the health and high expenses with athletes whose contracts expired in May".
The decision of the clubs active in Girabola was presented during a meeting with the FAF that analyzed the competition's interregnum, after the 25th round was played.
The football championship, then led by Petro de Luanda with 54 points, three less than the 1st of August, in the second position, was suspended in March following the decree on the state of emergency.
Petro de Luanda and 1º de Agosto were nominated to represent Angola in the African Champions League, while Sagrada Esperança and Bravos do Maquis will dispute the Confederation Cup.
