President opens hospital in Bié on protest day in Luanda

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, inaugurated on Saturday a new hospital in the province of Bié, on the same day that three demonstrations took place in the capital, including one called by the doctors' union.

:

João Lourenço inaugurated a new general hospital in the city of Cuito, capital of the province of Bié, with capacity for 230 beds and providing 20 specialized services, such as Gyneco-obstetrics, Pediatrics, Neonatology, Surgery, Nephrology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Stomatology and Otorhinolaryngology, among others.

According to a note from the Secretariat for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of the Republic, the health infrastructure will have 1000 technicians, including doctors (about one hundred), nurses, diagnostic technicians and administrative staff.

João Lourenço had visited the hospital works in the second half of October last year.

Saturday was also the day marked by the National Union of Doctors of Angola (SINMEA) to end a week of mourning and honor the pediatrician Silvio Dala, killed on September 1 in circumstances still to be clarified after being taken to a police station for not wearing a police mask.

The brutality of the police was the motto of another demonstration organized by young people to express outrage at police violence since the beginning of the pandemic that has claimed at least a dozen victims.

On the same day, supporters of PRA-JA Servir Angola, Abel Chivukuvuku's political project, demonstrated against the Constitutional Court's action, which has successively rejected the party's legalization.
