Country registers daily record 130 new cases of covid-19

The country announced this Tuesday a record 130 cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with three more deaths, at a time when the country has increased its capacity to more than a thousand tests per day.

The data were released by the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, during the daily epidemiological assessment in Luanda.

The 130 new cases are spread over six of Benguela, one of Kwanza Norte, seven of Huambo, two of Zaire and 114 of Luanda, aged between one month and 92 years, 103 male and the rest female.

Three people died, two men aged 61 and 64, and one woman aged 92, all of Angolan nationality, and eight patients recovered.

The total number of cases reported in Angola is now 3569, with 139 deaths, 2094 active, including one in critical condition, and the remaining recovered.

The laboratories have processed 1417 samples out of a total of 67,347 to date.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused more than 929,000 deaths worldwide since December last year, including 1875 in Portugal.

In Africa, there are 32,795 confirmed deaths in more than 1.3 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics about the pandemic in that continent.

Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Angola leads in number of deaths and Mozambique in number of cases. Angola has 139 deaths and 3569 cases, followed by Equatorial Guinea (83 deaths and 5000 cases), Cape Verde (46 deaths and 4904 cases), Guinea-Bissau (39 deaths and 2303 cases), Mozambique (37 deaths and 5713 cases) and São Tomé e Príncipe (15 deaths and 906 cases).

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
