Catoca Mining Society under sanitary fence. Over 1600 workers tested to covid-19

A health fence was set up at the Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, in Saurimo, Lunda Sul, on suspicion of three cases of covid-19 in that diamond company.

According to information released this Monday by Viegas de Almeida, the deputy coordinator of the Provincial Commission for Response to Covid-19 in Lunda Sul, the health authorities are waiting to receive the results of tests made to 81 citizens, including several employees of that mine.

For now there is no date as to when the fence will be raised, and it will remain for an indefinite period, he said.

Cited by Angop, the coordinator revealed that the provincial commission will collect samples of the 1600 employees who are confined in the mine. These samples will be sent to the capital to be analyzed in a laboratory, he added.

Viegas de Almeida said that the commission of that province has raised awareness, calling for the strengthening of protection measures.

To date, the province of Lunda Sul has registered only one positive case of covid-19.

In March, the Catoca mining company - the fourth largest diamond mine in the world and responsible for more than 75 percent of the country's diamond production - partially suspended work and dismissed some of the workers.
