According to Angop, everything happened last Thursday. After the first of the four babies was born at home, the mother was taken by her family to the hospital. The family took the woman to the Quilemba Medical Centre, which transferred her to the Lubango Maternity Hospital.
The maternity doctor, Josina Machel, who attended the birth, reported that when Teresa Candeia arrived at the maternity hospital, which happened around 12:30 pm, the mother was conscious.
An ultrasound was then performed, which confirmed that it was a multiple pregnancy and the hospital opted for a caesarean section due to the transverse position of the babies.
Thus, Teresa Candeia gave birth to two girls and two boys. The first girl, born by natural birth at home, weighs one kilo and 790 grams. The second baby, also a girl, was born by caesarean section, weighing one kilo and 670 grams.
The other two babies are boys, one weighing two kilos and 423 grams and the other weighing one kilo and 644 grams.
According to the doctor, quoted by Angop, the birth "went well".
Both the mother and the babies are stable, and the babies are in the nursery and the mother can already walk, and is currently awaiting discharge.
Teresa Candeia said that during her prenatal appointments she realised that she was going to have triplets, however, she was surprised when four babies were born, which she considered a "blessing from God". However, she lamented the lack of conditions to support her children, whose number with the birth of these four babies increases to 11.
"We are a peasant couple in the town of Quilemba, specifically in Três Pontes. My husband is 41 years old and with the birth of the four children the number of children has increased to 11 and we are asking for support from society to support the children, as they live in an adobe house with two bedrooms and a living room, we don't even have mattresses to put the quadruplets to sleep", said the mother, quoted by Angop.
