Angola eliminated from the Basketball World Cup after losing to the Dominican Republic

This Tuesday, Canada, Germany and Lithuania achieved their third victory in as many matches at the Basketball World Cup, while Angola was eliminated, after registering its second defeat, against the Dominican Republic (67-75), another team with only victories.


Angola had gone against the favoritism of the Philippines in the last round, but, against the Dominican Republic, it had no arguments to discuss the result, the third favorable to the Central American selection in Group A.

Despite the defeat, and consequent removal, Angolan Sílvio Sousa was man of the field in Manila, Philippines, with 19 points, nine rebounds and two assists.

In the other matches of the competition, and after the crushing triumphs against France (95-65) and Lebanon (128-73), Candá was again superior, this time against Latvia (101-75), who at half-time only lost by the minimum margin (43-42).

In the Group H matchday three, played in Jakarta, Indonesia, the 27 points, six assists and as many rebounds by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, player of the Oklahoma City Thunder, of the North American League (NBA), as well as seconded by Barrett (New York Knicks) – 22 points, five rebounds and one assist.

In the same 'poule', France, already removed from the tournament taking place in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, in the face of two unexpected defeats, managed to triumph for the first time, by beating Lebanon (85-79), which is also on the way.

Germany also reached full in Group E, after overcoming eliminated Finland (101-75), while Australia beat the host and also away Japan (109-89).

In 'poule' D, Lithuania obtained a third, very wide triumph against Montenegro (91-71), with Egypt winning for the first time in the tournament, against Mexico (100-72), in a duel between two teams with no chance of fight for the trophy.
