Angola debuts with defeat in the basketball world cup

Angola debuted with a defeat in its inaugural game in the basketball world cup. The national team of the modality faced, this Friday, in Manila, in the Philippines, the counterpart of Italy, having lost with a difference of 14 points.

The final score of the match was 81-67. "Angola was unable to beat Italy and lost by 81-67", says the Angolan Basketball Federation, in a statement made available to VerAngola.

According to the statement, the national team "surprised the opponent and managed to keep the game balanced in the first three quarters, making Italy's game difficult". However, advances the federation, "in the last quarter the Italian team managed to gain advantage and ended up winning the game".

Childe Dundão stood out among the athletes: "Childe Dundão was the best scorer of our selection with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists", says the note.

Also noteworthy are Bruno Fernando (13 points, five rebounds and two assists), Jilson Bango (six points and two rebounds) and António Monteiro (six points and two rebounds).

In the competition, Angola belongs to group A, which is also made up of the Philippines, Dominican Republic and Italy.
