Ivan Cavaleiro called up to the national football team for the first time

Striker Ivan Cavaleiro was called up for the first time to the Angolan football team, with a view to the game against Madagascar, in the qualifying phase for the next edition of the African Cup of Nations (CAN).

Ivan Cavaleiro, currently playing for French side Lille, represented the Portuguese 'AA' team on two occasions, both in 2014, under the 'hand' of Paulo Bento, after having played for the Portuguese under-17, under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21.

In this way, the 29-year-old winger is the big news among the 28 players chosen by the Angolan coach, the Portuguese Pedro Gonçalves, for the meeting on September 7th, referring to the sixth and final round of Group E of the qualifying phase for to CAN2023.

Angola is in second place in the group, with eight points, behind leader Ghana, which has nine, while the Central African Republic is in third place, with seven, and Madagascar is last, with two and no longer able to qualify.

For the final phase of CAN2023, which will take place between January and February 2024, in Côte d'Ivoire, the first two from each group will qualify, with the exception of the host country's group (Group H), in which there is only one place in dispute, as the Ivorians already have a guaranteed place.
