According to the official – quoted in a Government communiqué, which VerAngola had access to – the "African Basketball League chose Angola to host the sporting event due to the capacity demonstrated in holding competitions of this nature".
The event, adds the note, "will contribute to the promotion of the country in the African and international context", promote local tourism, as well as "provide young Angolans with the opportunity to exchange experiences with athletes from the American Basketball League (NBA)".
According to Amadou Gallo Fall, who is in Angola for a two-day working visit, there is already "an indicative date", but he is waiting for "confirmation from the Angolan authorities".
The official clarified that the event is usually organized between March and May, "so he hopes it will be feasible to carry it out in this period of next year", says the note.
Cited in the statement, the president of the African Basketball League said that they had come to "explore the possibility of bringing the games" to Angola. "We came to explore the possibility of bringing the games here in Angola. We have already done it in Senegal and it went very well. This is an opportunity to open the games here in Angola, at the Kilamba stadium", he said.
The African Basketball League, adds the statement, refers to a "joint initiative between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the American Basketball League (NBA), which aims to mobilize, raise awareness and educate young people in Africa, through of African club basketball competitions".
