Upon arrival at 11 de Novembro Airport, João Lourenço was received by the provincial governor, Gerdina Didalewa, by members of the Executive and by other local authorities.
A visit is planned to the construction works of the Hospital Geral do Cunene, which represents an investment of more than US$50 million. The infrastructure will have capacity for 220 beds.
According to the Government, trips are also planned to the locations where the construction of the Ndué dams is underway, in the Cuando and Calucuve Basin, in the Cuvelai Basin. These are infrastructures that will reinforce the water supply to local communities, suppress the needs of livestock and contribute to the irrigation of agricultural fields.
Both projects are part of the drought combat program set up in Cunene province, with the works having been launched in 2021, says Angop.
These two projects will benefit 136,000 people, 260,000 heads of cattle and will ensure the irrigation of 11,600 hectares of agricultural land.
The Calucuve dam will have a network of channels with a length of 111 kilometers, with 44 water reservoirs (known as 'chimpacas' in the south of the country). The Ndué dam will have a 75-kilometre network of channels, with 15 reservoirs.
The two infrastructures also belong to the 'Cunene River Catchment System', which develops from the Cafu region, considered a "successful" initiative, which has been supporting thousands of families and animals.
