Civic associations ask for defense of electoral truth even using “more energetic ways”

More than 20 civic associations have appealed to the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to accept the comparison of the minutes and the recount of votes to guarantee "the electoral truth", asking society to mobilize in favor of the dignity of the vote, even using " more energetic ways".

The communiqué is subscribed by groups from all over the country, such as the Sociedade Civil Contestatária Associação de Inclusão e Participação Comunitária, Filhos da Resistência; Placa Pirata em Acção; Libertador de Mentes (LDM); Mizangala (Bengo); Laulenu (Moxico), ROSCCA (Cazenga), Terceira Divisão, etc., who consider that the electoral process "took place in a climate of constant irregularities, without transparency, fairness and fairness".

The associations want the CNE to access the claims of UNITA and the Mudei Civic Movement for the comparison of all the summary minutes, "in order to prove the victory of the MPLA and, thus, guarantee the electoral truth expressed in the polls".

The National Electoral Commission announced on Monday that the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) won the elections with 51.17 percent of the votes against 43.95 percent for the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).

The MPLA won 3,209,429 votes, electing 124 deputies, and UNITA won 2,756,786 votes, guaranteeing 90 deputies.

The civic organizations also recommend that UNITA "disclose, within a minimum period of 24 hours, the definitive results of its parallel count" and that the elections be annulled and repeated, if the MPLA's victory cannot be proven.

"We, members of this collective, believe that without the guarantee of electoral truth in the coming days, the security of the Angolan State, public peace and tranquility will continue to be called into question - and in a dangerous way".

They also invite society in general to join a Broad Movement for the Defense of Sovereignty, with a view to establishing "a single current of struggle in favor of electoral justice and truth" and, in this way, "giving dignity" to the vote popular, "even if that means adopting the most energetic ways possible".
