According to a statement from the Lubango Central Hospital, which VerAngola had access to, the new morgue has a mortuary chamber with 24 drawers, an autopsy room, among other facilities.
"The new morgue, located in the basement, near the Endocrinology department, has a mortuary chamber equipped with 24 drawers, five offices for forensic medicine, a training room, an autopsy room, two examination rooms and a chapel", the statement reads.
In turn, the physiotherapy department has consulting rooms, treatment rooms, a gym, among other facilities.
"The Physiotherapy department, located in the basement, adjacent to the main entrance, has four consulting rooms, three treatment rooms, a gym and two specialized rooms for youth care, consolidating its position as the second center in the country offering differentiated treatments in this specialty", the statement adds.
At the inauguration ceremony, which took place on Tuesday morning, the Minister of Health "described the hospital as an emblematic infrastructure that has been providing highly complex support to the southern region of the country, with differentiated areas such as chemotherapy, ICU and haemodialysis, supported by modern diagnostic support services".
On the occasion, Sílvia Lutucuta also highlighted that the new morgue is not only used to preserve bodies.
"The minister stressed that the new morgue goes beyond the simple preservation of bodies, by including conditions for the practice of forensic medicine, within the scope of a partnership with the Criminal Investigation Services", reads the note.
She also spoke about the introduction of radiotherapy: "We have another gain, which is the introduction of chemotherapy. For cancer patients, everything related to chemotherapy and surgical treatment has already been done here in the province. We will continue to work with the provincial government and the hospital management so that in the near future we can add another extremely important area here, which is radiotherapy, which is sorely lacking in this health unit," she said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
The governor of Huíla, Nuno Mahapi, considered these services to be an added value. "It is always a great gain," he said.
The ceremony was presided over by the Minister of Health, who was accompanied by the National Director of Hospitals, Benedito Quintas, the provincial governor, Nuno Mahapi Dala, the vice-governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Maria Chipalavela, and the provincial director of Health, Paulo Luvangamo.
