Police arrested five suspects in the theft of 400 bolts from the Luanda Railroad

According to the spokesman of the Provincial Command of the National Police in Kwanza Norte, Edgar Salvador, apart from the arrests, several materials stolen in the stretch were recovered, as well as a vehicle used to transport the means, a scale, among other iron materials.

Edgar Salvador, cited by Angop, said that besides the five suspects, a 14 year-old minor was arrested for the alleged theft of materials to sell at negligible prices to the suspects, who in turn, sold them at high prices to buyers in Luanda.

The CFL made the complaint on Tuesday, stressing that the action, which damaged more than 150 meters of the line, could be linked to the practice of illegal sale of iron ore material to steel mills, a phenomenon that in recent years has been verified in the country, and the police authorities began investigations, which culminated with the arrest of the five suspects.

The Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, criticized this Monday the vandalizing of both road and railways, recalling this case registered in the railway branch of Zenza-do-Itombe, in Dondo, province of Cambambe, province of Kwanza Norte.

"Only two weeks ago 400 bolts were stolen from the railway line, it is a very big irresponsibility of who does it, because it can create serious and catastrophic situations for the companies and people and, fundamentally, this idea that the vandalizing of these means harms the population", said the governor, who was speaking on the sidelines of the delivery of 71 new buses to the government of Luanda province.

Ricardo de Abreu pointed out that he has been calling for the creation of alarm numbers and for the denunciation of this type of behavior.

"Because unfortunately we cannot be having behaviors of this nature when we are all committed to improving the living conditions of the population," he said.
