ILO will assist INE with employment information

The International Labor Organization (ILO) will provide technical assistance to the National Statistics Institute (INE) in the preparation of the Quick Information Sheet for the Employment Survey in Angola (IEA), an official source announced.

:

The information was transmitted by the director general of INE, Chaney Rosa John, guaranteeing that with the support of the ILO the Rapid Information Sheet (FIR) for the third quarter of 2021 will appear with "a new and much more robust appearance".

"We will have much more disaggregated information and we think we will be able to meet the new expectations that have been created among our statistical users," said the official at the opening of a methodological seminar on the IEA.

In this way, stressed the director of INE, the two institutions will continue together "working on improving statistical quality" and products, adding: "We will continue to march together and from then on we will be ready for new challenges and will continue to overcome."

The FIR is a document prepared by the National Institute of Statistics that describes the quarterly indicators of the Employment Survey in Angola.

According to Chaney Rosa John, the ILO's technical assistance comes within the scope of the "modernization of statistical products" of the public institution.

"Given that we continue to have and see an increase in the continuous demand in the very detailed breakdown of the IEA indicators, as well as taking into account the request to add new indicators that will help or complement the analysis," she explained.

INE "uses the methodology used by the ILO", however it is important to understand together "how this process works for the production of the Employment Survey in Angola", she stressed.

The unemployment rate in Angola increased to 31.6 percent in the second quarter of 2021, standing at 1.1 percent more than in the previous quarter, and the employment rate in that period fell by 1 percent, announced the INE. Friday.

Employment in the second quarter of 2021 decreased by 1 percent from the previous quarter and increased by 6.4 percent from the same quarter of 2020.

The indicators on the IEA for the second quarter of 2021 were presented by the head of the Department of Demographic and Social Statistics at INE de Angola, Teresa Spínola.

In the context of statistical production, noted Chaney Rosa John, INE is positioned "as an autonomous institute, in light of its organic status, as well as the National Statistical System Law, which safeguards technical autonomy for INE".

"As well as international cooperation for the production of different statistical indicators, it is also important to say that INE is governed by statistical principles as well as by the good practices adopted by the United Nations and other international organizations", concluded the official.

The methodological seminar on the Employment Survey in Angola brought together journalists and technicians from the institution at INE's headquarters in Luanda.
