The batch of these vaccines arrived this Tuesday at the international airport February 4 and "is part of the Biden-Harris administration's global efforts to combat the covid-19 pandemic," a press release from the U.S. embassy reads.

According to the document, "this donation of 25 million doses of this vaccine to Africa is part of fulfilling the U.S. pledge of 80 million doses donated globally. The U.S. Government has closely coordinated with the African Union and CDC Africa on vaccine allocations to each country."

Cited in the statement, the U.S. Ambassador to Angola, Nina Maria Fite, said that "as the largest bilateral donor of health care to Angola, the United States has a long-standing relationship with the Angolan health sector to improve access and quality of care".

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the U.S. "has provided more than $8 million to Angola to slow the spread of the virus through improved disease surveillance, quality training for front-line workers, strengthening laboratory operations and others," the diplomat said.

Angola has also received donations of covid-19 vaccines from Portugal, the UK and Serbia.

Angola, which has been in a state of public calamity for more than a year, has a total of 46,076 positive cases of covid-19, 2289 of which are active, 42,624 recovered and 1163 dead.
