Covid-19: country with 85 more cases and four deaths in the last 24 hours

The country registered 85 new cases of covid-19, four deaths and 445 recoveries from the disease, in the last 24 hours, said this Monday the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

The confirmed cases were reported in the provinces of Cunene (29), Luanda (21), Moxico (eight), Cuando Cubango (six), Huambo (six), Bié (five), Cuanza Sul (three), Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Zaire (two each) and Benguela (one), whose ages range between 1 month and 97 years, being 44 males and 41 females.

Franco Mufinda lamented the four deaths, three men and one woman, between 59 and 94 years old, two that occurred in Moxico, one in Cunene and another in Lunda Sul.

"However, we managed to recover 445 people [from the disease], in the last 24 hours, aged between 1 and 99, being 179 in Lunda Norte, 86 in Luanda, 45 in Cunene, 28 in Huila, 24 in Moxico, 22 in Benguela, 22 in Huambo, 16 in Namibe, 15 in Kwanza Sul, three in Zaire, one in Bié, one in Cabinda, one in Cuando Cubango, one in Lunda Sul and one in Uíge," Franco Mufinda said.

The country totals 43,747 cases, 1053 deaths, with a lethality rate of 2.4 percent, 40,567 recovered from the disease, representing a recovery rate of 92.7 percent, 2127 active, of which 14 in critical condition, 16 serious, 87 moderate, 24 light and 1986 asymptomatic.

Nationwide, 141 patients are hospitalized, 219 are in institutional quarantine and 784 contacts are under epidemiological surveillance.

The Secretary of State compared data between the weeks of July 26 to August 2 and August 2 to August 9, regarding the indicators of cases, recoveries and deaths.

In the week of July 26 to August 2, 1041 cases were registered against 827 in the second week, that is, 214 less cases, which translates into less than 20.6 percent.

As for recoveries, in the first week under review, 2671 patients were recovered, while in the last week 2207 were recovered, 464 less recoveries.

As for deaths, in the week from July 26 to August 2, 27 deaths were reported versus 35 from August 2 to August 9, thus giving a difference of eight deaths, or 29.6 percent more.

In the last 24 hours, 2312 samples were processed, indicating a daily positivity rate of 3.7 percent, and the cumulative number of samples processed to date is 833,768, with a cumulative positivity rate of 5.2 percent.

At the entry and exit points of Luanda, 449 users were tested, 324 males and 125 females, with one positive case, a resident of the municipality of Cazenga.

Regarding the vaccination process, Franco Mufinda said that since March 2 of this year to date 1,700,150 doses have been administered, of which 975,252 of the first dose and 724,898 of the second.

At the international airport, 82,072 travelers have been tested post-departure from January 16 to date, with 182 confirmed cases, including 105 males and 77 females.

Covid-19 has caused at least 4,294,735 deaths worldwide, among more than 202.8 million infections with the new coronavirus recorded since the pandemic began, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India, South Africa, Brazil or Peru.
