US invests 3 million dollars to strengthen Angola's response to covid-19

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will make three million dollars available to Angola in order to strengthen the response to covid-19.

:

The funds will be used to help the country fight the new coronavirus: 200 water tanks for hand washing will be installed in the country, of which 30 will be installed in the main hospitals of Luanda and in the provinces of Benguela, Cunene, Huambo and Lunda Sul.

According to Nina Maria Fite, US Ambassador to Angola, quoted by Angop, the funding also foresees the training of 450 health technicians, in order to help them use individual protection equipment in the most correct way. It also provides for training of health care providers and members of the rapid response teams.

The person in charge, who was speaking on the sidelines of the launching ceremony for the hand-washing water tank project at Maternidade Augusto Ngangula, made it known that this project also aims to install screening stations to identify patients infected with covid-19 more quickly and thus help maintain social distance.

In addition, the investment will also cover the surveillance of covid-19 in six health units, located in Luanda and Benguela.

The fund will be long-term and will also serve to control other diseases that affect the country, such as AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, among others, he said.
