Portugal delivers medical equipment to support Maternidade Lucrécia Paim

The Portuguese Ambassador in Angola, Pedro Pessoa e Costa, delivered this Thursday to Maternidade Lucrécia Paim, in Luanda, medical equipment to support the neonatology unit, as part of a project to reduce the neonatal mortality rate.

:

The initiative is part of the project "Support to the Perinatal Care of the Maternity Lucrezia Paim", in progress since December 1st 2018, under a protocol between the Maternity Lucrezia Paim (MLP), the Portuguese Neonatology Society and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the embassy advanced in a statement.

The project, expected to last two years and with a budgeted value of 280 thousand euros, intends to contribute to the reduction of the neonatal mortality rate of MLP, the largest maternity ward in the country.

Within this scope, several activities are foreseen, among which are the periodic displacement of health professionals in the neonatal and obstetric area to MLP; the performance of internships for MLP health professionals in Portugal; remote technical assistance; and the acquisition of specialised clinical equipment.

The medical equipment delivered this Thursday by the Portuguese Ambassador, on behalf of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, to the General Director, Manuela Mendes, consists of anesthesia tubes, nasal cannulas for neonatal and pediatric oxygen, umbilical catheters, feeding probes, extension for syringes and circuits for ventilators.
