State has raised 31 billion kwanzas with privatization of 14 assets since 2019

The government has fit 31 billion kwanzas with the privatization of 14 companies, from 2019 to April this year, announced this Monday the Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury of Angola.

Osvaldo Victorino João, who was speaking at the end of the eighth meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers, directed this Monday by the President, João Lourenço, said that by the end of this year the expectation is to raise more than 100 billion kwanzas, with the privatization of 51 assets, excluding companies in the financial sector.

According to Osvaldo Victorino João, since the beginning of the 2019-2022 Privatization Program (PROPRIV) until April of this year, 14 assets have been registered, mostly from the Special Economic Zone, and also from the agro-industrial area, with emphasis on the Camaiangala Farm, besides assets from the cold storage sector, namely warehouses and slaughterhouses.

The Angolan ruler said that with the 14 assets, 150 direct and 320 indirect jobs are expected to be created.

"Most of the assets we mentioned are located in Angola, but there are at least two of the 14 that were located in Lisbon and were part of Sonangol's asset sphere," he said.

Ongoing, he continued, are 51 privatization processes, which the government expects to be completed by the end of the year, half of which should have their tenders already completed between September and October.

"Among these assets, to mention assets from the financial sector, we have the open tender for privatization of BCI [Banco de Comércio e Indústria], ENSA [state insurance company] is also in the process of privatization and Sonangol's shares in BAI [Banco Angolano de Investimento] and Caixa Geral de Angola bank," he listed.

The Secretary of State for Finance and Treasury noted that outside the financial system there are assets in the agro-industry sector, for which several bids for the purchase of two assets have already been received in this second phase of launching tenders.

"We think that by the end of September we will have part of these privatized agro-industry assets and here we are talking about silos, slaughterhouses and a can factory in Benguela and several assets in the same sector," he said.

In the agribusiness sector, five assets are being privatized, including two large farms (Kizenga and Pungo Andongo, located in the province of Malanje), a process that has been underway for some time and is expected to be completed during September.

"We have some other relevant sectors. From the point of view of ongoing processes, the second wave of tenders for privatization of industries in the Special Economic Zone is in its final stages," said Osvaldo Victorino João, noting that 13 units were launched, for which they received 67 purchase bids, and should also be completed next month.

The state's holdings in the breweries Cuca, EKA and Ngola are also being privatized, processes that should be completed soon.

In the industrial sector, added Osvaldo Victorino João, the three largest Angolan state assets in the sector are being privatized, namely the textile factories TEXTANG II, África Têxtil and SATC.

Ten applications have already been received for the sale of these assets and it is expected that by September the privatization processes of these plants will be concluded.

Launched in 2019, PROPRIV foresees the sale of 195 assets owned or participated by the State.
