BPC fires first 200 workers next Monday

The Banco de Poupança e Crédito de Angola (BPC) will lay off the first 200 workers of the 1600 planned next Monday, August 31.

:

"The workers were required, on the 21st, to sign the letters of termination of contract. There are even people with more than 30 years of service at the bank included," revealed Carlos Forty, first secretary of the BPC Trade Union Commission.

In statements to Novo Jornal, he considered that the dismissals will not get the bank out of the crisis and said that BPC's management is not open to negotiations.

The unionist also revealed that the employees are frustrated with the situation and that the union has been trying to calm them down. However, the atmosphere is not encouraging: "At all the BPC branches there are sad and morally lacking employees to work according to the decision," he said.

Carlos Forty appealed to BPC to first try to negotiate alternatives to dismissals.

It should be remembered that in July BPC announced that it was going to close more than 50 branches, distributed throughout the country, as part of a restructuring plan. The bank revealed that the closure of the 53 branches will send 1600 workers to the street.
