The Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro, as part of his official visit to Angola, which ends on Thursday, visited this Wednesday morning two companies close to Luanda, Powergol, specialized in the energy sector, and Refriango, market leader in Angola in the drinks sector, stated that his focus is “understanding the extent to which Portuguese companies are imposing themselves and implementing themselves in Angola”.

"My focus today is to understand to what extent Portuguese companies are imposing themselves and implementing themselves in Angola and to what extent public authorities and those who depend on the Government's responsibility can help to cooperate with its activity and through this cooperation also help the country in question, which is Angola", he said.

At Refriango, Montenegro visited the entire production chain at length and even tasted several versions – filtered and unfiltered – of the beer produced here.

"A toast to cooperation with Angola", he said, exchanging greetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

The Portuguese Prime Minister considered that the two companies visited this Wednesday perform "a double public service".

"On the one hand, boost Angola's economy, provide employment opportunities, contribute to the social and economic development of this country, which is a brotherly country. At the same time, give a boost to our capacity from the point of view of gaining market share, from the point of view of the internationalization of our economy", he said.

Montenegro argued that in Portugal companies have "technological capacity, good human resources, good businesspeople with entrepreneurial capacity".

"We have to have confidence in what we are capable of doing at home and abroad, for the good of our country, the well-being of the Portuguese, but also for the good of those spaces where we relocate, which is the case here in Angola", appealed.

At Powergol, the Portuguese Prime Minister visited the training and training center in the field of electrical installations and infrastructure, located in Bom Jesus, and pointed it out as an example of what is intended to be generalized with one of the agreements signed on Tuesday between Portugal and Angola.

In this protocol, it is intended that the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP) will begin working in Angola to promote the professional training of Angolan staff.

Asked about the fate of the increase in the Portugal-Angola credit line, which was increased by 500 million euros during this visit, Montenegro only said that it will be "very related to the infrastructures that the Angolan Government has prioritized and with which Portugal is associated through this specific line of credit".

Furthermore, in statements to journalists late this Wednesday morning, he called for a "doubled injection of confidence" in the capacity of the Portuguese economy, after praising two "magnificent examples" of national investment in Angola.

"What we are interested in highlighting today is the capacity we have, is trust. We need an injection of redoubled confidence in the capacity of the Portuguese economy, in our technical capacity, in our business capacity and in our capacity also to attract investment or encourage investment abroad", he stated.

The Portuguese Prime Minister was asked if, a day later, he could clarify how and when he will apply the diploma that lowers the IRS promulgated by the President of the Portuguese Republic (originated in a diploma from the PS), but he mocked the communication difficulties on the spot not to respond.

"I'm without a network", he simply said, saying he didn't want to divert the focus of this Wednesday's program, centered on the economic aspect.

During the afternoon of this Wednesday, Luís Montenegro visits the Portuguese pavilion and several stands of Portuguese and Angolan companies at the Luanda International Fair (FILDA), giving the closing speech of the Angola-Portugal Business Forum, dedicated to theme of the agri-food sector.
