TAAG resumes flights to China in about half a year

The announcement was made by the Minister of Transport, Ricardo D'Abreu. Speaking in the Chinese capital, the official indicated the end of this year or the beginning of the next as the possible deadline for TAAG to return to China.

"In the process of restructuring and reinforcing the TAAG fleet, we have prospects of ensuring that by the end of this year or the beginning of the next, we will restart the connection to China, eventually to another city that is not Beijing, but that is of commercial importance for both countries, with China being a strategic partner," said the minister, quoted by Angop.

However, the holder of the Transport portfolio – who is in Beijing to discuss with the contractor about the procedure for concluding the work on the new Luanda International Airport 'Dr. António Agostinho Neto' – did not name possible cities.

Before the covid-19 pandemic, which is why flights to that Asian country were suspended, the flagship airline operated flights to Beijing twice a week.

However, according to Angop, the route to Beijing was not very profitable, so now with the return of flights, priority can be given to another Chinese city.

Among other aspects, Ricardo D'Abreu also mentioned that the state-owned airline has an "important" intercontinental contract for the transport of cargo from Latin America, with passage through Angola towards China, with a budget of more than 250 million of dollars, writes Angop.
