Authorities speak of “illegal exploitation” to raise prices and promise to act

The National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA) has found, in recent days, that there are traders "illegally taking advantage" of the rise in exchange rates to raise prices, assuring that it will act "without contemplation".

The balance sheet of the inspection actions referring to the second quarter of the current year points to price speculation, in some cases, "since some traders are taking advantage of the conjunctural situation in the whole world and in Angola in particular, with the rise of exchange, for illegal use, changing the price of products".

"The price increase, if it is within the permitted margin, depending on the result of the calculation structure, the trader will be acting in accordance with the law, otherwise it is speculation", the note emphasizes, adding that "the ANIESA is attentive and will act without contemplation, applying sanctioning measures to offenders".

The balance sheet informs that, in that period, ANIESA signed an agreement with its Portuguese counterpart ASAE, in the field of training, laboratory support, sharing of information and good inspection practices.

In the field of cooperation, the Angolan inspection authority visited the Independent Health Regulatory Entity of Cape Verde and the National Inspection of Economic Activities of Mozambique, for the strengthening and consolidation of institutional relations.

Between April and June, ANIESA sent eight cases to the Attorney General's Office for crimes of tax fraud, adulteration of food and medicinal substances.

In the period in question, 280 inspections were carried out at establishments in the economic sector, namely commerce (226), industry (33), health (17) and hotels and tourism (4), which resulted in nine seizures and 11 destructions estimated at more than 330 million kwanzas.
