Emis justifies flooding in multicaixas in Luanda with logistics in salary period

"This is not a technical problem, but the logistics of supplying ATMs by banks, normal in periods of high demand", Marco Rocha, from Emis's Communication and Image office, told Lusa.

Luanda province has registered, in recent days, huge floods and long queues at automatic teller machines, commonly known as multicaixas, spread across several municipalities and districts.

According to Marco Rocha, bank customers have resorted to multicaixas en masse, especially in the "period of payment of public service salaries to carry out, mainly, cash withdrawal operations".

"This behavior is already almost a characteristic and the latest floods were no exception to the rule", stressed the official, referring that the process of expanding or reducing these services, installed in bank branches, is the responsibility of the banks.

He also considered that Emis is at the forefront of the process of massification of electronic payments as alternatives to the use of physical money, "solutions sometimes not conveniently felt as a result of the poor financial literacy of the population".

"If we consider this challenge as a process, I believe that we are aligned that the path has been started and is ongoing at a good pace to aim for good results in the near future", concluded Marco Rocha.

Emis is a company that manages the Multicaixa Network and the Automated Clearing House of Angola, comprising payment card management systems, credit transfers, check clearing, direct debits and instant transfers.

The company has 22 commercial banks as shareholders and a share capital of 4.059 billion kwanzas.
