Luanda hosts international conference on renewable energies

The capital will host, on the 5th and 6th of July, an international conference on renewable energies. The international conference “Renewable energy in Angola”, which will take place at the Agostinho Neto Memorial, will present the most recent developments and business opportunities in the renewable energy sector in the country.

According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the event is organized by ALER (Lusophone Association of Renewable Energies) and ASAER (Angolan Association of Renewable Energies), in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Water of Angola, counting on how the support from GET.invest – a European program that aims to "mobilize investment in decentralized renewable energies, with the cooperation of the European Union, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Austria".

The note states that the conference follows the announcement of several public investment initiatives in photovoltaic solar energy to electrify several locations in the country, "which will make a very relevant contribution to achieving the goal of 70 percent by 2025, taking into account the current 42 percent".

It is estimated that the conference will receive more than 300 participants from the public and private sector, national and international, who will be informed "first hand" about the latest developments and business opportunities in the renewable energy sector in the country.

According to the statement, the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Environment, Filipe Zau, as well as the PCA of IRSEA, PRODEL and ENDE, administrators of the RNT, among others.

With free access, the conference will take a hybrid format (in person and online) and will benefit from simultaneous translation into English. Thus, those interested in participating can register here.

The event will discuss topics such as the "Status of Renewables in Angola and Opportunities for the Future", the "National Energy Profile" or the "Institutional and Legal Framework", among others.

In addition to comprising matchmaking sessions, bilateral meetings between the various participants, among others, the National Report on the Status of Renewable Energy in Angola will also be presented at the conference.

The communiqué also informs that a complementary activity will be carried out: a business mission, on the 4th and 7th of July, aiming to clarify any interested parties in more detail. "The mission also includes a workshop of the IFC - International Finance Corporation of the World Bank group - for the Evaluation of the Angolan Electricity Sector", completes the note.
