Covid-19: Angola with 99 cases, seven deaths and 212 recoveries in 24 hours

Angola registered 99 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as seven deaths and 212 recoveries from the disease, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Monday.

Of the new cases, 50 were registered in the province of Cunene, 10 in Moxico, 10 in Luanda, six in Huambo, six in Cabinda, five in Huila, four in Benguela, three in Zaire, two in Bié, two in Lunda Norte and one in Lunda Sul, with ages between 1 month and 87 years, 54 being female and 45 male, said Franco Mufinda.

According to the health authorities seven deaths were registered, three of them in Cunene, two in Lunda Norte, one in Huila and one in Bié, with the victims aged between 15 and 80 years old, and four of them were male and three male.

In the same period 212 people were also considered recovered from the disease, of which 93 in Luanda, 33 in Cunene, 25 in Huíla, 16 in Huambo, 16 in Zaire, 15 in Kwanza Sul, 11 in Benguela, two in Lunda Sul and one in Uíge, with ages between 1 month and 78 years.

Angola now totals 41,879 cases since the pandemic began, including 991 deaths and 35,688 recovered from the disease, with 5202 cases still active.

Among the active cases, two are in critical condition and 12 are in serious condition.

Laboratories processed 3650 samples in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 798,418 samples, with a cumulative positivity rate of 5.2 percent.

Health authorities have administered 1916 doses in the last 24 hours, bringing the number of vaccines inoculated since March 2 to 1,653,709.

During the press conference, the Secretary of State for Public Health said that there is "an increasing reversal of the epidemiological situation," with the authorities concerned about "the provinces of Cunene, Moxico, Lunda Norte, Huambo and Cabinda.

According to the most recent data from the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the continent has counted more than 6.47 million cases since the pandemic began, including more than 164,000 deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,163,235 deaths worldwide, among more than 194.1 million cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the most recent tally by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the UK, India, South Africa, Brazil and Peru.
