Covid-19: country records four more deaths, 198 recoveries and 178 new cases

The country recorded four deaths associated with covid-19 in the last 24 hours, a period in which 178 new cases were reported, mostly in Cunene province, and 189 recoveries, health authorities announced Thursday.

The epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health states that the new cases were reported in the provinces of Cunene (42), Lunda Norte (38), Luanda (37), Benguela (24), Moxico (20), Namibe (7), Huila (4) and the provinces of Uige, Bié, Malanje, Lunda Sul, Cuanza Norte and Cabinda with one case each.

According to the document, the deaths were registered in the province of Cunene and in the province of Moxico, two in each.

The laboratories processed, in this period, 3024 samples by RT-PCR, and the cumulative points to 787,176 processed samples with a positivity rate of 5.3 percent.

Angola, which has been in a state of public calamity for more than a year, has a total of 41.405 positive cases of covid-19, 5346 active, 35.082 recovered and 977 deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,128,543 deaths worldwide, among more than 191.9 million cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the most recent balance sheet from Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the UK, India, South Africa, Brazil and Peru.
