Covid-19: Country announces 101 more cases and 12 dead

Angola registered, in the last 24 hours, 101 more cases of covid-19 and reached the second highest number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic with 12 recorded deaths, according to the National Directorate of Public Health.

The epidemiological bulletin released this Monday indicates that cases were reported in Cunene (42), Moxico (28), Luanda (11), Zaire (8), Huambo (6), Benguela (2), Lunda Sul (2) and Cabinda (2) with ages between one month and 86 years, being 57 male and 44 female.

During this period, 12 deaths were reported (7 male and 5 female with ages ranging from 27 to 93 years), while 35 people between 3 and 67 years were recovered.

The laboratories processed 1883 samples in a cumulative figure that points to 778,596 tests.

Angola now counts 40,906 cases, of which 34,790 have been recovered, 5147 active (of which six critical and eight severe), and 969 deaths.

116 patients are hospitalized and 108 people are in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 4,093,263 deaths worldwide, among more than 190.3 million cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the most recent assessment by Agence France-Presse.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the UK, India, South Africa, Brazil and Peru.
