Covid-19: Angola registers 75 new cases and five more deaths

Angola has registered 75 new cases of covid-19 in the country in the last 24 hours, a total of 39,375, and five more deaths, in addition to 280 recoveries from the disease, Angolan authorities announced Tuesday.

The new cases were reported in Luanda (38), Lunda Norte (nine), Benguela (six), Cunene (five), Huíla (five), Huambo (three), Cuando Cubango, Malanje, Zaire (with two each), and Cuanza Sul, Lunda Sul and Uíge (one each), with ages between 7 months and 80 years, of which 43 were male and 32 female, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health.

In this period five deaths were reported, aged between 1 and 68 years, while another 280 people aged between 5 months and 74 years recovered from the disease.

Laboratories processed 2595 samples and the cumulative points to 667,397 tests with a positivity rate of 5.9 percent.

The updated data shows 39,375 cases, including 920 deaths, 34,019 recovered from the disease, 4436 active (including 13 critical and 21 severe).

A total of 94 people are hospitalized and 185 are in institutional quarantine.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,987,613 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 184.1 million cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the most recent report by Agence France-Presse.

In Portugal, since the pandemic began in March 2020, 17,118 people have died and 892,741 cases of infection have been recorded, according to the Directorate General of Health.

The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in countries such as the United Kingdom, India or South Africa.
