New repatriation flight announced this week from Porto

The government announced this Monday the realization of a new flight of repatriation, from Porto, to bring citizens who are stranded in Portugal, due to the closing of borders to control the pandemic of covid-19.

:

"We are already dealing with a second flight that should take place this week from Porto," announced Transport Minister Ricardo Viegas de Abreu.

Last Friday, 260 Angolans from Lisbon returned to the country, which the minister congratulated "for the civic behavior" they had during this "exceptional" process, guaranteeing that the government is trying to minimize the constraints.

From Porto, the objective is also to repatriate 260 compatriots, said the minister.

Ricardo Viegas de Abreu pointed out that the government will try to shorten the waiting time for all passengers during the process of screening, sorting and choosing luggage.

"We are going to improve the procedure, in order to ensure that, after check-in, at the starting point, it is possible to create a mechanism that, in Luanda, facilitates the disembarkation and distribution of luggage to the respective quarantine places", he indicated .

Ricardo de Abreu also clarified that passengers need a valid ticket to travel.

"Regardless of whether flights are humanitarian, any passenger needs a travel permit," he said, adding that this is one of the criteria defined for these initial flights.

“What has been happening, in some circumstances, in spite of fulfilling the defined criteria, have titles that are no longer valid or belong to other companies with which TAAG does not have an agreement to offset these values and there may be a charge for a fee for updating these titles ”, he justified.

The minister also spoke of "difficulties" in contacting some people who want to travel to Luanda, whose telephone numbers are not correct.

"It is a job that, at the level of Embassy and Consulate in Portugal, is being done in order to ensure direct communication with people", he underlined.
