The first of the flights that marks the homecoming of 2000 Angolans left Lisbon

The first of several humanitarian flights that marks the return of the approximately 2000 Angolans held in Portugal due to the covid-19 left this Friday from Lisbon with 260 citizens, announced the Angolan embassy in Lisbon.

The flight of the national airline - TAAG left in the morning for Luanda, after the passengers had "respected in Lisbon and during the flight all the sanitary rules imposed by the current pandemic situation".

This process of boarding the 260 passengers, which took place without any incident, was closely monitored by elements of the Angolan diplomatic representation in Portugal, according to the note from the Angolan Embassy in Lisbon.

As of this Friday, 66 cases of covid-19 have been detected among Angolan citizens in Portugal, with 30 people recovered and three deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 627,000 deaths and infected more than 15.2 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 16,434 confirmed deaths in more than 770,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest statistics on the continent's pandemic.

Among African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Equatorial Guinea leads in number of infections and deaths (2350 cases and 51 deaths), despite having revised the cases down after several days without updates, followed by Cape Verde ( 2190 cases and 21 dead), Guinea-Bissau (1949 cases and 26 dead), Mozambique (1582 cases and 11 dead), Angola (851 infected and 33 dead) and São Tomé and Príncipe (746 cases and 14 dead).
