Houses collapsed during the removal of the Prenda Crane are already being rebuilt

The construction of the houses that had to be destroyed during the process of removal of the Crane from the Present is already under way. The crane, which was in danger of collapsing, was removed in May this year. However, to remove it 10 houses had to be demolished, leaving some families homeless, under the promise that the houses would be rebuilt and that the families would return to the neighbourhood of the Prenda within 90 days.

When the crane was removed, the Luanda Provincial Government (GPL) promised the villagers that the houses would be built again and that in three months they would be back. The promise seems to be almost fulfilled: "The work here does not stop. We are working with the clock because we have to deliver the work within the deadline and that is our goal," said a technician from the company Obra Prima - the contractor - to Novo Jornal.

Without giving details about the date of return of the residents, everything indicates that they will be relocated in the neighbourhood of Prenda next month.

Domingas Manuel, one of the residents of that area, said she never believed in the promise of LPG, but now she sees that she was wrong.

"After all it's true," he begins by saying. "I hope everything goes well and there are no problems when it comes to returning the houses to us. I'm happy because I'm seeing the government building my house," he said.

Josefa Alfredo, another of the residents who had to move, said she was anxious to return, stressing that she was satisfied "with the progress of the works".

The LPG made available to the families about 120 thousand kwanzas to rent a house while theirs was not built again. In Josefa's case, the resident preferred to get a house close to the neighborhood. "I rented it nearby so as not to be far from space, I was afraid that the government would not keep its promise, but apparently they are keeping it," she said.

Nelson Borges, president of the residents' commission, explained to Novo Jornal that the withdrawal of the families took place without any problems, hoping that the delivery of the houses would happen in the same way.

Considering that the most difficult part of the work is already done, he said he believes the government will be able to meet the deadline: "The duration is 90 days, and there are already almost 60, if they do not slow down the pace of the work, I believe they will be able to meet the deadline. Because things are on the right track".

If there are delays, the payment of the rent for the houses where the families are currently staying will be at the expense of the contractor, he said.

"Nobody will take anything out of their pocket to rent houses at the end of 90 days, if the deadline is not met, but I believe that this will not happen because the works are progressing at a good pace", he stressed.
