The country registered 33 more cases of infection with the new coronavirus, increasing the total to 386, with two more deaths, announced this Tuesday the Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta.

The new cases, 11 female and 22 male, aged between 9 and 71 years, are from Luanda (28) and Kwanza Norte (5) and result from screening in the sentinel units, namely reference hospitals (Military, Sanatorium, Josina Machel and Divine Providence) and private sector clinics (Girassol), indicated the governor in Luanda.

Five of these cases are of local contamination and 28 are "under investigation".

As for the deaths, these are a 29-year-old who was admitted to the Hospital da Divina Providência, which developed a severe acute respiratory infection, and a 71-year-old patient who has been in a reference treatment center for two days.

"It was one of the critical cases and had several comorbidities," she added.

The country thus has a total of 386 cases, of which 21 died and 117 were recovered.

Among the 248 active cases, six require special care and one is in a critical condition.

Silvia Lutucuta also announced that as of Wednesday, health authorities will proceed with mass testing in the markets, highlighting Catinton, 30 and Kikolo, among other "risk areas of large conglomerates", where information will be collected on the current epidemiological situation.

"We will do about 6000 serological tests", which will have to be confirmed by the molecular-based RT-PCR test, he concluded.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 538,000 deaths and infected more than 11.64 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
