Country exceeds barrier of 300 covid-19 infections

Angola announced this Thursday 24 new cases of covid-19 infection and two deaths, now totalling 315 infected in the country, of which 17 died, announced the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda.

Among the new cases, 15 are female and nine are male, aged between 10 and 69 years, all from Luanda (Maianga, Belas, Samba, Talatona and Ingombota districts).

Eighteen are of local transmission and six are not known to be linked, with 49 now being the number of infections whose source of infection is unknown.

As for the two deaths, they are two Angolan citizens with pre-existing diseases. One, 67 years old, was admitted to the Sunflower Clinic in critical condition and suffered from hypertension and diabetes. The other, 54 years old, was also diabetic.

Angola now has a total of 315 infected, of whom 17 died, 97 recovered and 201 were active.

The disease has been accelerating in Angola, which has seen the number of cases almost double in two weeks. On 17 June, the country registered 155 infections, with seven deaths.

The covid-19 pandemic has claimed more than 516,000 lives and infected more than 10.71 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 10,390 confirmed deaths in more than 420,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on that continent.
