The Ministry of Tourism, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, reported that the election took place at the 68th meeting of the entity's Regional Commission for Africa, which is taking place in Nigeria.
"Angola reached an important milestone for the international tourism sector by being elected to three prominent positions in the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), on the first day of the 68th meeting of the entity's Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), taking place in Abuja, Nigeria", the note reads.
One of the positions is the vice-presidency of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa. "Angola was elected vice-president of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa, a subsidiary body of UN Tourism, responsible for implementing programs and projects at the continent level", the note states, adding that, in this way, the country "strengthens its leadership role in the promotion and development of sustainable tourism".
Angola was also elected "a member of the Executive Board of UN Tourism, the body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the organization's work program and making strategic decisions with major global impact."
"In a third recognition, Angola has become a member of the UN Tourism Online Training Committee, a technical group whose mission is to develop and promote digital training tools, aiming to qualify professionals in the tourism sector with a focus on innovation, inclusion and sustainability," the statement also states.
According to the ministry's note, these appointments "represent an important international recognition of Angola's commitment to the development of tourism as a driver of economic growth, job creation and the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage."
"This achievement is not only symbolic, it is strategic as it represents an important step in Angola's integration into global tourism, with the potential to bring economic, cultural and social benefits, in addition to positioning the country as a reference in sustainable tourism in Africa," the ministry adds.
